Snow, Snow Go Away

We have been out of school for 3 days, and tomorrow has been canceled as well...   Don't get me wrong, I love a good snow day, or two.  But FOUR days cooped up in my little apartment, is not good for my well being.  My mom and sister keep calling me to make sure I'm still mentally sane.

I am, for now.

BUT... if we get anymore snow I just might have to cry.  Seriously.  I don't live in Alaska for a reason.  I love my mild winters graced by a few "light" snow falls.

And they're calling for more snow.

I'm supposed to be heading to Central, AR on Monday evening for some quality time with family while I'm on my "work week" from that MAT.  If anything prevents me from doing that, I will NOT be a happy girl.

So... Snow, Snow Go Away.

Snow, Snow, Snow

I'm not really sure if I've ever talked about my dad's job on here.  I've been meaning to do a post on that, just because I am so proud of him!  But, I haven't yet.  Maybe I'll do one this week!

Anyway, a little preview:  My dad is a retired Air Force Pilot.  Translation:  I've moved all over the country in my short 22 years on this earth, with the most important of those years being spent in Arkansas after my dad retired from the military.  So I like to say I've had the best of both worlds:  I'm incredibly cultured from moving all over the place, yet I'm proud to have "grown up" in a small town and have some of the best friends who still reside in that same town.

My favorite place we ever lived was Virginia.  We lived in Centreville, VA which was 20 miles outside of Washington, D.C.  I LOVED it.  While we were there, we experienced the blizzard of '98.  In the blizzard of '98 we received up to 8 feet of snow in some areas.  Our entire walk-out basement door was covered by snow.  Us kids had fun building igloos, having snow ball fights, and sledding down the massive hill in our backyard.  OF COURSE, I would of been the one to get hurt and break my other leg during that time... but you should know me well enough to guess that by now.

We experienced lots of snow during our time in VA, and so you would think I would be an old-pro at snowstorms and not get all excited and crazy like the rest of the south when snow comes our way.  Wrong!  I don't know what it is, maybe it's the mob effect, but I get just as crazy as the rest of them.  I mean, you can never be too prepared right?  So I went to Walmart last night, to stalk up on a few necessities, with the rest of NWA.  It was a mad house there, but I loved it.  Everyone racing for the last jug of milk, carton of eggs, etc.  Everyone bracing/hoping for a snow storm just bad enough to cancel school for a few days, yet not for a repeat of the Ice Storm of '09.  Yet, still stocking up just in case it is in fact a repeat of the Ice Storm of '09.

I love the fact that in NWA when the meteorologists call for snow, you know for a fact you're gonna get some snow!  It started icing/sleeting at 4 am this morning.  Light sleeper I am, I heard it all clinking against my window.  5 am:  I checked the news and *YES* no school for me!  And now, since 8 am it has been snowing continually.  It's gorgeous, and peaceful, and perfect.

Except, for I feel really bad for the little birds outside my door looking for food.  What can I throw them to eat?

Snow Day Part 2

It's a gorgeous snow day again!  I absolutely love this time of year, I love the excitement my students get when snow is approaching, I love turning on the T.V only to realize the school district I teach in is closed.  I love the peacefulness snow gives, the silence as it creeps to earth.  

Of course, I still woke up at 6 am this morning, but I'm delighting in the fact that I have a whole day with nothing that I have to do.  I'm planning on cooking some yummy soup, baking chocolate cookies that we certainly do not need, and finishing reading "Water for Elephants" (which is a must read, by the way).

And while I'm thinking of what I'm going to do today, I thought I would post some of my goals for the next year, mainly so I'll remember them.  Most of these goals won't get accomplished until the Summer, when I'm off work, but that's ok.

1.  Learn HTML code.  This way I can create blog templates for me and my friends and do all sorts of other cool things.

2.  Learn photoshop.  I have CS5 on my computer, yet have NO clue how to use it.  Photoshop is seriously the most confusing program I've ever used.  Everyone knows I love photography, but I love editing photos even more!

3.  Apply for teaching jobs!  (Ok so I really should get started on this one ASAP)

4.  Read through the Bible.  I'm one of those girls that only likes to read the part of the Bible that applies to the situation I'm in.  So my goal is to read through the entire Bible.

Snow Day, Finally

I wanted to have a snow day so badly on Monday.  Sunday evening I was studying with my friend Brittany, (who I also teach with) and we were so excited when we walked outside and realized it was snowing.  I was really hoping to have a snow day on Monday because I had so much work that I needed to get done, and a day off would be the perfect opportunity to get it all done.  Well, Monday morning came and although there was snow all around, Springdale schools weren't closed.  Fayetteville schools were, but Springdale... Nope.  So off to school I went, slipping and sliding everywhere.  Including busting my butt in the parking lot while walking in to school... fun.  

But the day ended up being great.  I rearranged my lessons a little bit so my students would have somewhat of an easy day, and I was able to finish my IRB proposal.  

God always knows what's best, and He knew that I didn't need a day to work, but simply a day to rest.  I finished all my work last night, and woke up this morning to snowy streets and no school! All of us in the MAT program are hoping for lots of snow days because we don't have to make them up at the end of the year!

So, muffins are in the oven.  The roommate is asleep on the sofa.  The bachelor is playing in the background, and I plan on doing nothing today but catching up on my guilty pleasures.
